Aion Professions
Aion has various professions you can take with your character to help with different tasks such as creating potions, weapons, or armor. Choosing which profession to take is somewhat important because it can be the difference between being forced to rely on other players and being able to take care of yourself gear-wise.
In this section we will go over the various professions in an attempt to help you decide which one you wish to go with. Keep in mind that there is no “right” profession for any class, or for any player. The best one is the one you choose!
Weapon Smithing
Being a weapon smith allows you to create various weapons such as Daggers, Swords, Maces, Greatswords, and Polearms. Being able to create these means you can always get better gear without having to keep buying (or having others give to you) from other players.
To create items you will need to obtain various materials, such as Steel Ingots, Steel Nails, Steel Rods, Titanium Nails, Titanium Rods, Adamantium Nails, Adamantium Rods, Orihalcum Nails, Orihalcum Rods, and Siege Weapon Struts. To get these you must obtain the lower materials and craft them using those.
Once you have the materials you need you will need to craft using a recipe for the item you wish to make. To obtain these, you must get them from leveling up your profession or from the NPC shop, which is semi-expensive. Some items are “normal” and some are rare. This reflects the amount of materials it takes to craft the item, being that rarer items cost much more.
To do some recipes you will need to level up your weapon smithing profession. To do so you are required to do a quest that has you create certain items and turn them in to a NPC. The levels of the quests are 1, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60. This can be very expensive to complete, but the benefit is well worth it.
Also, when you complete one of the quests and boost up a level, you will obtain a random profession-specific item. These can include things like recipes.
Armor Smithing
Armor Smithing is the profession to take if you wish to create heavy armor. Note that the armors you will be able to create are heavy (plate and chain) and shields. This profession can sometimes be as expensive or more expensive than weapon smithing, but you are limited to only items for heavy armored users.
For this profession you must obtain low materials such as Iron Ore, Charcoal Briquette, Iron Dissolving Agents, and others and you will use these to create the higher items like Steel Ingots, Steel Wires, Steel Chains, Small Steel Plates, Medium Steel Plates, Large Steel Plates, Titanium Ingots, Titanium Wires, Titanium Chains, Small Titanium Plates, Medium Titanium Plates, and Large Titanium Plates.
Just like with weapon smithing you will need a recipe for the items you wish to craft, as well as the various materials that are needed for the item. The level of the item and the rareness determines your profession level requirement in order to create it, and you level it up by a NPC as well. You do the quests which require you to create items and then you turn them in to boost your profession level. For this profession, there are levels 1, 10, 20, 30, and 40.
Handicrafting
Handicrafting is for players who wish to create bows, staves, rings, earrings, necklaces, and hats. This profession is pretty important solely because of the ability to create jewelry and hats. These two types of items are used among every class in the game, making them beneficial to not only one class of player but everyone!
An example of some of the materials that Handicrafters use are Birch Logs, Silver Ores, and Lesser Precious Metal Dissolving Agents. This choice probably will not be able to earn as much Kinah as some of the others (such as the weaponsmith) but it is very beneficial in terms of helping others.
Alchemy
Alchemy is an interesting profession because of what it is centered around. Generally one would guess that alchemists deal with nothing but potions and things like that, but in Aion the alchemists also deal with spellbooks and orbs.
First of all it is important to note that although any class is able to choose alchemy, it is highly recommended for players of a Mage type to do so. Others will just not obtain the same benefit (due to Mages needing the weapons that alchemists can create).
Now the type of potions alchemists are able to create range from healing potions to mana potions to statistic boosters. These are kind of like a buff but they do other things such as boost magical attack and things like that.
An example of some of the various materials that alchemists deal with are Angelica, Lesser Elemental Water, Glass Bottles, Tarragons, and Lesser Elemental Stone Powders. You will undoubtedly remember Angelica from the beginning of our leveling section, so this should already be a little familiar.
